By EMS Chief Andrew Spalding
December 20, 2017

It is with great sadness and extremely heavy hearts that the Officers and Members of the Newburg Volunteer Rescue Squad & Fire Department & Auxiliary announce the passing of Life Member, Past Vice President, and Past Chaplain John Henry Thomas. John Henry was accepted as a member of the department in July of 1993. During his 24 active years with Co. 14 he served as a driver of the EMS and Fire Division, served as Vice President, but was more passionately known for his many years where he served as Chaplain to both our department and the Charles County Association of EMS. He also served as a delegate to the Charles County Association of EMS and the Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen’s Association for many years, and was a past member of the Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen’s Association Honor Guard. One of the most prestigious awards that John Henry received was that of the honor of being awarded with the Father Newman Chaplain of the Year award.

Arrangements are as follows:

Viewing- Tuesday December 19th, 2017 at Station 14, 12245 Rock Point Road, Newburg, MD, 20664 from 1730-2000 hours, with Firemen’s Prayers at 1900 hours.

Viewing/Funeral- Wednesday December 20th, 2017 at Station 14, 12245 Rock Point Rd, Newburg, MD 20664. Viewing will be from 1030-1100, with funeral services starting at 11 am.
